Vascular Lesions

Vascular Lesions: Understanding and Treatment Options

Vascular lesions include various abnormalities of blood vessels visible on the surface of the skin, such as diffuse redness, spider veins, and small dilated capillaries. While generally harmless, they can affect skin tone uniformity and create the appearance of persistent redness.

What causes vascular lesions?

Vascular lesions occur when blood vessels become fragile, dilate excessively, or multiply abnormally. This condition can be influenced by several factors:

Genetic factors: A predisposition to conditions such as rosacea, spider veins, or angiomas.
Prolonged sun exposure: Weakening of capillaries and the development of diffuse redness.
Skin aging: Loss of elasticity in blood vessels, leading to permanent dilation.
Circulatory disorders: Poor venous circulation leading to the appearance of spider veins, especially on the legs.
Pregnancy and hormonal fluctuations: Hormonal changes that can trigger the appearance of telangiectasia or cherry angiomas.

What are the different types of vascular lesions?

Telangiectasias: Small dilated blood vessels visible under the skin, appearing as fine red or purple lines. They are commonly found on the face—especially the nose and cheeks—as well as the legs, and are often associated with rosacea.

Spider veins: Small bluish or purplish veins primarily located on the legs and thighs, caused by poor blood circulation. They are more superficial than varicose veins and typically do not cause pain.

Rosacea (couperose): Diffuse redness on the face—particularly the cheeks, nose, and chin—caused by permanent dilation of small blood vessels. It is often associated with rosacea and may worsen over time

Cherry angiomas: Small bright red spots caused by a cluster of blood vessels near the surface of the skin. They often appear with age and are primarily found on the torso, arms, and neck.

Recommended Treatments

Vasculaze

Vasculaze is a laser technology that targets dilated veins and superficial spider veins on the body. It works by delivering light energy that heats and closes the affected blood vessel, making it progressively less visible.

Lumecca Peak

Lumecca Peak uses intense pulsed light (IPL) to effectively reduce diffuse redness and dilated blood vessels. This technology targets red pigments and visible capillaries, promoting their natural absorption and helping to even out skin tone.
