Vascular Lesions

Vascular Lesions: Understanding and Treating

Vascular lesions include various abnormalities of the blood vessels visible on the skin’s surface, such as diffuse redness, spider veins, and small dilated blood vessels. Although they are generally benign, they can affect the evenness of the complexion and give the appearance of persistent redness.

Why do vascular lesions occur?

Vascular lesions occur when blood vessels become fragile, dilate excessively, or multiply abnormally. This condition can be influenced by several factors:

– Genetic factors: Predisposition to rosacea, spider veins, or angiomas.
– Prolonged exposure to the sun: Weakening of the capillaries and the appearance of diffuse redness.
– Skin aging: Loss of elasticity in blood vessels, leading to their permanent dilation.
– Circulatory disorders: Poor venous circulation leading to the development of spider veins, particularly on the legs.
– Pregnancy and hormonal fluctuations: Hormonal changes that can cause telangiectasias or ruby angiomas.

What are the different types of vascular lesions?

– Telangiectasias: Small, dilated blood vessels visible beneath the skin, forming fine red or purplish lines, often located on the face, nose, cheeks, and legs. They are frequently associated with rosacea.

– Spider veins: Small bluish or purplish veins, mainly found on the legs and thighs, caused by poor blood circulation. They are more superficial than varicose veins and generally do not cause pain.

– Rosacea (couperose): Diffuse redness on the face (cheeks, nose, chin) caused by permanent dilation of small blood vessels. It is often associated with rosacea and can worsen over time.

– Ruby angiomas: Small, bright red spots caused by a cluster of blood vessels on the surface of the skin. They often appear with age and are mainly found on the torso, arms, and neck.

Recommended Treatments

Vasculaze

Vasculaze is a laser technology that targets dilated veins and superficial spider veins on the body. It works by delivering light energy that heats and seals the affected blood vessel, gradually making it less visible.

Lumecca Peak

Lumecca Peak uses intense pulsed light (IPL) to effectively reduce diffuse redness and dilated blood vessels. This technology targets red pigments and visible capillaries, promoting their natural resorption and evening out the complexion.
